National Print and Drawing Awards opening night

Rub shoulders with some of Australia’s top artists, enjoy some jazz tunes, and see award-winning print and drawings.

More than 300 entries were received to this year’s National Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards, from some of Australia’s finest contemporary artists.

Our expert judges have chosen 50 finalists, which will be on display.

Enjoy drinks and finger food with some of the artists, judges and local art enthusiasts, and hear the winners of the $16,000 prize announced. The River Boat Quintet jazz band will perform.

Open to one and all, we look forward to seeing you there.

Go North Arts Festival at Riverside Park

SATURDAY 3 SEPTEMBER  |  RIVERSIDE PARK

Clare Bowditch will headline this spectacular live music and art event on the banks of the mighty Murray River. There’ll be music from:

And you can get your hands dirty by trying something new at art workshops for people of all ages and skill. All included with your ticket price.

  • Screen printing with Jake Holmes
  • Drumming workshop with Dave Houston
  • Simple clay making with Damien Thomas

  • Spray paint and stencil with Kerryn Finch
  • Painting/drawing with Shirley Pinchen

Opening dance, smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by the Wiran Dance Group.

Food trucks will be on site – including dumplings from Elaine’s Kitchen, ice cream and waffles from Frosty Monkeys, Helen Tuntar’s African Delights, hot chips and other street food from Mallee Hot Bites, a barbecue from Sunrise Rotary, hot drinks and cookies from Cookies n’ Cream, plus milkshakes and soft drinks from food vendors.

Alcoholic drinks will be available at bar prices – strictly no BYO alcohol.

This is an all ages event. Children aged 15 years and under get free entry, but tickets must be reserved for children when you book your ticket.

Guitar recital in the Gallery

Enjoy a classical guitar recital from Malcolm Perris, and take your time to enjoy work by finalists from the National Print and Drawing Awards.

This free event is open to one and all.

Malcolm Perris is an incredibly versatile guitarist and instructor that combines astounding technique and command of the instrument with a brilliant sense of melody and harmony. He has stretched the boundaries of what’s possible on the guitar for over two decades in both Contemporary Popular and Classical Guitar.

Lithography talk and demonstration

Peter Jacobs – printmaker, painter, and passionate stone lithography practitioner – will be at the gallery to demonstrate the magic and chemistry that is drawing and printing on stone.

Hear Peter’s story of his most recent series, Epicormic growth, these images emanating from the bushfires and the effect that had on him as he stayed and defended his house and studio.

This is a free event, with entry open to one and all.

National Print and Drawing Awards

The biennial National Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards attract works from some of Australia’s finest contemporary artists.

From very large to very small, from complex to rudimentary, the works entered into each Print and Drawing Awards are made with skill, vision and commitment.

The awards are continuing to grow in prestige, offering something for artists and for our community alike.

The exhibition is on until 20 November, at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery. Entry to the Gallery is by donation.

Drawing the narrative workshop with Andrew Antoniou

2016 Swan Hill Print and Drawing winner Andrew Antoniou is a painter and printmaker well known for his large scale figurative works on paper. Spend the day with Andrew and discover new ways of “drawing the story”.
